Replacing the fabric on a piece of furniture can dramatically change its appearance so it is important to choose your fabric with care. We have a wide range of fabric samples for you to choose from in our Upholstery Department. All fabric is fire retardant to comply with current fire regulations.
There are a number of ways that a sofa or chair can be re-covered.
- Loose Covers
- Re-Covering
- Re-Upholstery
Loose Covers
These are made to loosely fit over the original chair, with a valance at the bottom enabling you to remove them for cleaning.
Re-Covering
This involves removing the original fabric and replacing it with new fabric. A layer of fibre may be added to the existing filling and the woodwork would be re-polished if necessary before the new fabric is fitted.

Re-Upholster
Every part of your furniture is checked and replacements made where necessary.
- All existing fabric is stripped off
- Frames are checked for movement and any loose joints will be tightened
- Webbings are checked and replaced if necessary
- Springs will be checked and replaced if weak or broken
- All foam, feather and felt fillings and padding will be replaced where necessary
- The furniture will be re-covered with your chosen material.
- Sofa and chair bases are upholstered with either hessian or a similar base cloth
This involves stripping down your furniture to the springs and frame and building up with new fillings. When complete the re-upholstered furniture should be as good as the original.
